How to organise a bespoke trip?

A trip that reflects you cannot be improvised: it is built. Defining your project, choosing the destination, designing the itinerary, managing flights and hotels: our 5-step method to get everything right, on your own or accompanied.

Sometimes the trip you have in mind isn't in any catalogue. An island nobody sells, exactly ten days to match your leave, the wish to take your time where trips rush. That's what a bespoke trip is for. Here is how we build one, step by step. You can do it yourself, or with us.

1. Why travel bespoke?

The idea is simple: to travel exactly as you wish. Your dates, your pace, your stops, your level of comfort. Nobody hands you a fixed programme. It's also the right answer when you travel as a family or with friends and everyone wants something different, or when you want two trips in one: the city then the beach, the desert then the mountains.

And no, it isn't only for big budgets. Bespoke is mostly about optimising every dirham: the money goes where it matters to you (a lovely hotel, the excursion you've been dreaming of) and you save on the rest, partly thanks to an agency's wholesale rates.

Bespoke in practice

A bespoke trip starts here

Two weeks in Italy between lakes, vineyards and the sea? A few days in Morocco between Marrakech, the desert and the coast? We draw up the programme with you, from the first idea to the flight confirmation.

2. Step 1: define your project

Before you look at a single flight, set the basics. When clients come to see us, we always start with these five questions:

  • The overall budget: a total amount for the trip (flights, hotels, activities), rather than a per-person rate that often forgets the extra costs.
  • The length: the exact number of nights, taking into account time differences and travel time.
  • The travel style: relaxation, discovery, adventure, culture, all-inclusive or a road itinerary.
  • The places to see: the places or experiences absolutely not to be missed, and the ones you can skip.
  • The constraints: fixed dates, travellers with reduced mobility, children, dietary requirements, allergies.

Everything else follows from there. The more precise your answers, the more the trip will feel like yours. Our job is to turn those answers into a real programme: that's the expertise of your Monarch Travel consultants.

3. Step 2: destination & season

You choose a destination with your heart, but also with the calendar. The same country changes completely from one season to the next: Turkey in April and Turkey in August are not the same mood or the same budget. Three questions to ask yourself:

  • What climate are you after? Guaranteed sunshine, mountain freshness, or mild temperatures to sightsee without sweating.
  • When are you going? High season attracts crowds and high prices; low season offers the opposite, sometimes with still very pleasant weather.
  • What distance? A direct flight from Morocco or a stopover: this affects the useful time on site and the budget.

Our consultants know the best periods for each destination in our trips. They don't just tell you where to go, but when.

4. Step 3: design the itinerary

This is where it all comes together. What we look for is a balanced pace: full enough not to get bored, light enough not to come home exhausted. Our rule: on a trip, no more than one hotel change every 2 to 3 days, and real free time between visits.

What your itinerary must balance

ComponentWhat to planPitfall to avoid
Sightseeing1 to 2 major sites a day, with opening hoursStacking museums without any break time
TransportTravel time + margin for the unexpectedUnderestimating the fatigue of long drives
NightsHotel changes spaced out, longer nights in the middleChanging stage every evening
Free timeHalf a day "à la carte" every 3 daysA programme timed minute by minute

Leave some room for improvisation too: a market you stumble upon, a small restaurant spotted in the street, a sunset that goes on and on. Those are often the moments people talk about when they get home.

5. Step 4: flights, hotels, transfers

  • Flights: compare beyond the price. Schedules, stopovers, airline, included baggage: a more expensive but more practical flight is often worth it.
  • Hotels: location trumps standard. A well-located 3-star hotel is more pleasant than a 5-star out in the sticks.
  • Transfers: plan the airport arrival, the inter-stage connections and the last-day journey in advance.
  • Bookings: activities, guided tours and much-sought-after tables must be booked several weeks before departure.

This is where an agency really makes a difference. We have access to wholesale rates and allocations the general public never sees, and everything sits in a single file. Less time spent, often a lower price, and peace of mind.

6. Step 5: confirm & leave worry-free

Documents & visa

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the return date. Check the visa rules for each country too: it's the kind of paperwork an agency can handle for you.

Travel insurance

Take out insurance that covers medical costs and cancellation. It's the expense people tend to skip, and the one that saves you when something goes wrong, before or during the trip.

Last-minute checklist

Booking confirmations, a copy of your passport, tickets and insurance (on your phone and on paper), a little local currency for the first day, your charger and an adapter. And off you go.

Frequently asked questions about bespoke trips

How far in advance should you organise a bespoke trip?

Ideally allow 6 to 8 weeks before departure to get the best flights and hotels. For some destinations, leaving even earlier guarantees more choice and better conditions.

Does a bespoke trip cost more than a standard trip?

Not necessarily. A bespoke trip lets you control your budget by choosing the hotel level, the options and the period, while benefiting from an agency's wholesale rates. Ask for a free quote to compare.

Can I modify the itinerary proposed by the agency?

Yes, everything is modifiable: length, stages, hotel category, activities. The programme is adjusted with you until it matches exactly what you want, before any final confirmation.

Who takes care of me in case of an unforeseen event during the trip?

Your agency remains reachable 24/7 throughout the stay, with local assistance on site to manage transfers, excursions and any last-minute changes.
